Remodeling photo checklist

Use this before requesting price: wide context photos, detail photos, room-specific angles, access constraints, and a short scope note.

Photo Prep

Show the project clearly.

Better photos reduce back-and-forth and make the first estimate conversation more useful.

Wide context photos

Start with wide photos so the room or exterior area makes sense before close-up details are reviewed.

  • One photo from the doorway or main approach
  • One photo from each useful corner
  • Floor, ceiling, wall, and opening context where visible
  • Exterior approach if materials or parking may matter

Detail photos

Close photos help identify the surfaces, fixtures, damage, and existing conditions that affect scope.

  • Cracks, stains, moisture marks, or damaged surfaces
  • Fixtures, cabinets, trim, tile, counters, and flooring
  • Access panels, shutoffs, outlets, vents, and transitions
  • Anything that must stay, match, move, repair, or be protected

Room-specific photos

Different rooms need different photo angles, especially kitchens, bathrooms, additions, and exterior work.

  • Kitchen appliance walls, cabinet runs, counters, sink, and flooring
  • Bathroom vanity, toilet, tub or shower, ventilation, floor, and ceiling
  • Addition or repair tie-in points, foundation edge, siding, roof, and drainage
  • Doorways, stairs, hallways, and work-path constraints

Send with the photos

Photos work best with a few words about what the homeowner wants to change and what constraints matter.

  • Project address or nearest cross street
  • Short scope note for what should change
  • Timing, access, and budget range if known
  • Whether the request is repair, finish update, or layout change
