Kitchen remodeling checklist

Use this before requesting kitchen remodeling price: layout, cabinets, counters, appliances, surfaces, lighting, timing, photos, access, and terms.

Kitchen Prep

Separate finish work from layout changes.

Kitchen requests get clearer when the first message identifies what stays, what moves, what finishes matter, and what access or timing limits exist.

Layout and appliances

Call out anything that may move or change the room plan before price is discussed.

  • Current appliance locations and any movement being considered
  • Sink, range, refrigerator, dishwasher, island, and pantry expectations
  • Doorways, windows, traffic paths, and work triangle concerns
  • Whether walls, openings, plumbing, or electrical changes are part of the idea

Cabinets and surfaces

Cabinet and surface expectations are major scope drivers, even for a smaller finish update.

  • Cabinets to keep, paint, reface, repair, or replace
  • Countertop, backsplash, sink, faucet, and hardware expectations
  • Flooring, trim, wall finish, and paint assumptions
  • Any matching, protection, or existing-condition concerns

Photos and measurements

Kitchen photos should show the whole room plus close-ups of the details that affect the work.

  • Wide photos from each useful corner
  • Cabinet runs, appliance walls, counters, sink, flooring, and ceiling
  • Close-ups of damage, transitions, vents, outlets, plumbing access, and trim
  • Rough room and cabinet-run measurements if available

Timing and budget range

Timing and budget context help decide whether the kitchen request is ready for the next step.

  • Preferred timing and any deadline constraints
  • Access limits, occupied-home concerns, pets, parking, and work-hour restrictions
  • Budget range or decision ceiling if one exists
  • Who approves scope, finishes, schedule, and estimate terms
